Daily program

Your local tour guide will greet you at Sofia International Airport. After a short and comfortable transfer, you check in at a centrally located hotel for three nights. No programme is scheduled for the rest of the day.

Today you travel to one of the largest orthodox monasteries in the world – the Rila Monastery. The monastery was founded in the 10th century in the heart of the Rila Mountains, at an elevation of 1150 m. above sea level. In the Middle Ages it developed into an important centre of intellectual and cultural life in Bulgaria. The buildings on the monastery grounds are home to around 300 ornamented chambers, each one – a unique work of art. Explore among others the main church and the monastery museum with its valuable exhibits of religious books, ancient weapons of the monastery guards, deeds by Bulgarian Tsars, jewellery and church objects. Lunch including freshly caught trout. On the way back to Sofia in the afternoon, you visit another UNESCO monument – the Boyana Church. It is world-famous for its symbolic frescoes, forerunners of the Renaissance.

Enjoy today a Sofia sightseeing tour. You can admire the main attractions of Sofia such as the St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the St George Rotunda, founded in the 4th century, the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Serdika, the St Sofia Basilica of the oldest churches in South-eastern Europe, the Bulgarian National Bank, the National Assembly building, the Russian Church and the National Theatre. No programme is scheduled for the afternoon. Upon request, a visit to a traditional restaurant with folklore programme and Nestinari fire-dances can be arranged.

Depending on the flight schedule, you can still enjoy some free time or you will be transferred to Sofia Airport where you say goodbye to your local tour guide.
